Time Spent Walking Through Memories

Assalamualaikum

That onigiri reminded me of you.
And the picture in my head that night,
When you told me many about your present life,
Are you still there, tonight? With an onigiri to replace a nice home meal?

I couldn't figure myself out, in your case.
But I did remember feeling nice to have you near,
And your invisible scent. And the corner of your eyes which held many secrets and mysteries.
I did keep it to myself; how my eyes were searching for you in the crowd,
In every assembly. You were not so tall, nor short. Your build was just nice, perfectly suited the green uniform and those long legs. I admired your face and ridiculous laugh, I liked every bit of your talks and smirks, and I never once wavered. It had always been you. After three years I'd come to long for your presence, but it was always absentee.

You might like athletes, and I was never meant to be one. But I like light shoes for small runs and jogs. You might wish for a cook, and I encountered many failures, not disappointments. But I make people good ramen and samyang. You might want to see a dresser, and I always chose anything safe that didn't make it in magazines. But I would like to think I am trying and growing. You might think it's me, but those shadows weren't mine to begin with.

No, don't worry. It's just an onigiri.
